While on a monster contract, Geralt stumbles upon the ceremonial execution of another Witcher, carried out by otherworldly beings. During his investigation into who this Witcher was and the events that led to his untimely demise, Geralt becomes entangled in a web of half-truths and deception at the heart of a twisted pact between a remote human village and a nomadic Huldufolk community—both facing extinction from separate, incurable plagues—until a mysterious sea creature known only as Knoggelvi offers salvation.
